The Lounge: Nailah Blackman aims for international stardom

If you’ve been paying attention to the soca landscape you would have noticed that we are in the midst of a transition as a new generation of artists are taking over the airwaves and the entertainment arena. 

Leading the charge is Nailah Blackman, granddaughter of the late Garfield Blackman aka Ras Shorty I, the man who invented soca.

Blackman has proven to be a an exciting and refreshing addition to the soca landscape who, in only three short years, has made a giant leap from the underground music circuit to being considered one of the top soca artists today.

We sat down with Blackman in The Lounge to find out the secret to her success and why she doesn’t want to be the next Rihanna.
